Sustaining Sangha: Renewed Generosity Each Month

Vallecitos bows deeply to our Sustaining Sangha. Your loving support carries Vallecitos through rain and shine, snow and wind, dark and light. Your gift lends stability to the unpredictability of tending this wild, off-grid refuge. Starting at $20/month, keep your precious time at Vallecitos in the forefront of your heart/mind.

One-Time Gift

You know the value of sitting retreat in the deep woods. Your gift supports Vallecitos to maintain  sliding-scale retreat fees, provides scholarships for those otherwise unable to access the healing found on retreat, and assemble teaching teams based on affinity. Thank you for covering the 30% of costs that remain after retreat fees and helping us keep retreat time affordable.

Meal Dana

Join in the ancient tradition of offering meals to those sitting retreat. Your meal dana provides food to meditators as an act of generosity and support for their practice. Often, your gift celebrates a birthday, honors someone who has died, or commemorates another of life’s many milestones.

This tradition has flourished in Asia for over 2,600 years. Within this model of mutual support, householders have provided meals to monastics who, in turn, provide Dharma and guidance to the community for thousands of years. Your gift keeps this beautiful tradition alive while sustaining one of the most basic things we do: nourish our retreatants each and every day.

If you feel moved to participate in this flow of generosity, you may offer a meal and a brief dedication that will appear in our dining hall on a date of your choice. You may also choose to give anonymously.

*From our remote, off-grid location to our intimate groups, Vallecitos is unique among retreat centers. The wildness of the place brings us great joy and supports us to remember our own deepest nature, and… adds significantly to our operating costs.

• Vallecitos isn’t on any delivery route. We don’t have access to trash or recycling services. Instead, every week we drive an hour and a half each way to pick up all of the center’s food, and drop-off our trash and recycling “in town”.
• With our intimate retreats and operating only five months of each year, we don’t have the purchasing power of larger organizations.
• Finally, to sustain our retreatants at high altitude (and the many who hike each day), we offer heartier meals than you might encounter at other retreat centers.

Naturally, our food production costs are far higher than you may be accustomed to. To make the gift of meal dana more accessible to our retreatants, we offer meal dana options on a sliding scale.

Legacy Giving

Ensure that Vallecitos lives on. Including Vallecitos as a beneficiary in your will or living trust, retirement plan, bank account and/or in your life insurance policy is a statement of conviction. Corporate Matching

Harness your company’s resources to increase the impact of your gift. If you have given a gift recently or in this calendar year, it may still be eligible to match. Please ask your Personnel Department for a matching-gift form, and then contact us.

Stock Transfers

A gift of appreciated assets, such as securities, can provide a tax deduction for the full market value of the asset and could eliminate the capital gains tax you might incur from the sale of the appreciated asset. Please contact us for more information about making this kind of gift.
